GasNZ signs on to Energy Transition Framework

1 September 2025

GasNZ recently signed up to the Energy Transition Framework – a diverse group of energy sector participants, focussed on collaborating to ensure energy remains secure, affordable and abundant, while supporting a high-growth economy.

Originally focussed primarily on the electricity sector, the group publicly launched earlier this year to include electricity generators, retailers, lines companies, as well as gas retailers and distribution companies, along with independent consumer and advisory representatives.

One of the group’s current priority workstream areas is the gas sector. GasNZ will look to join the Framework’s Gas Working Group, which is taking a close look at how New Zealand’s gas system is working now, and what might need to change in the future.

As noted on the Framework’s website, “this includes looking at how households and businesses that need gas can get it.

“Gas is used in lots of different ways across New Zealand and currently not everyone who needs it can get it.

“By understanding the whole picture, we can make smart choices that work best for people and businesses across the country.

“A gas working group has reviewed what we know about the gas system and produced this report identifying key information”

“The group are looking at ways to complete the analysis that the report suggests should happen.”
