Handy advice for dealing with cold burns
2 April 2025
GasNZ has produced first aid and clinical advice for the treatment of cold LPG burns.
LPG is typically around minus 42 degrees celcius when it is in liquid form, and can cause serious burns if it comes in contact with skin.
Developed by GasNZ’s Health and Safety committee, one version of the treatment advice is scaled down to credit card size, designed to be carried in wallets so as to be readily on-hand if needed.
One side gives does and don’ts for on-site first-aid when dealing with cold burns, with the reverse being aimed at clinicians such as GPs and Accident and Emergency staff who may always not be familiar with current best-practice for dealing with these type of burns.
An A4 poster-sized version has also been produced. The cards and posters can be ordered online at GasNZ's procurement portal.
