Highlights of Australian renewable fuels week
1 April 2025
This month’s Australian Renewable Fuels Week conference in Sydney highlighted the tangible momentum of the domestic bioenergy sector across the Tasman.
GasNZ’s principal policy advisor Chase Hancock said standouts from the event included some significant funding announcements and completion of a relevant global framework.
Announced at the conference, the Australian government made a meaningful funding commitment of $250M to accelerate the low carbon liquid fuels industry.
An A$6 million contribution to Delorean Corporation’s South Australian biomethane plant was announced solidifying recognition of the sector’s importance.
Also at the conference, the World Biogas Association announced the completion of their Global Biogas Regulatory Framework, providing a framework suite of policies, regulations, and standards to support and enable a high-performing biogas sector through adaptation on a country-by-country basis.
Hancock said that aside from highlighting progress and interest in Australia, the Renewable Fuels Week illustrated the key role bioenergy, with specific focus on liquid and gaseous fuels, will play in transitioning to a low carbon energy system in New Zealand.
