Thank you to all the speakers, sponsors, and attendees who joined us for GasNZ Forum 2026: Gas Matters last week.

Over two and a half days, industry leaders, decision-makers, and experts came together to explore the current state of New Zealand’s energy system and discuss its future. We heard the case for electrifying everything, the growing role of LPG, the proposed LNG terminal, and biomethane from a range of interesting speakers.

It is clear that gas has an important role in our energy system – whether it be commercial cooking or barbecuing at home, or heating the water for thousands of hotel guests or having enough hot water for your teenager’s hour-long showers. The fact is, over 600,000 homes and businesses still rely on gas today.

One theme consistently emerged across every panel: despite differing perspectives and priorities, there was often agreement on the challenges and opportunities ahead. It was a reminder of what can be achieved through respectful conversations and a shared commitment to finding solutions.

We look forward to continuing these conversations and working together on the solutions needed to support New Zealand's energy future.
