Gas Industry winners at the MITO Awards 2026

On 1 September, the MITO Industry Summit and Awards 2026 were held in Wellington, recognising excellence in industry training and learning. Congratulations go to Kristian Larsen and Tavita Fa’amausili, both from GasNZ member Omexom, who received awards – with Kristian receiving the Gas Learner of the Year award, and Tavita taking out the award for the Supervisor of the Year across all sectors.

Supervisor of the Year Award – Tavita Fa’amausili, Omexom
“Tavita has demonstrated enduring dedication to training, mentoring and supporting learners across Omexom’s gas workforce. With around 26 years industry experience, Tavita brings deep technical knowledge and firsthand understanding of the learner journey, helping apprentices and trainees build confidence to meet qualification requirements and achieve high industry standards.
Beyond his technical expertise, Tavita is a trusted mentor who genuinely cares about learner wellbeing. Tavita provides regular support to staff working in isolated regional roles, champions mental health and wellbeing, and strengthens safety through practical capstone assessments that ensure learners can apply their skills competently on site. This combination of experience, care, leadership, and commitment to developing others makes Tavita a hugely deserving recipient of the award.”
