Safety first without exception

Further to recent coverage about an LPG retailer declining a new customer based on unsafe access to the house, Janet Carson, Chief Executive GasNZ supported gas retailers. “Health and safety must always come first.”

She said most sites are suitable for LPG bottle exchange delivery, and commended companies that took full site assessments before taking on a new customer, to avoid issues down the track.

“Site assessments are mostly standard practice these days and there are a few safety non-negotiables that are considered before a company takes on a new customer.”

“Obstacles; hazardous stairs; steep or long driveways with no turn-around area, and whether someone can get close enough to the house to unload the bottle will all be taken into account.”

“It would be a tragedy if someone was seriously hurt, or worse, delivering LPG to a home. This is why we take these precautions and people will have to be declined if a safe delivery option, like smaller bottles or improved access, cannot be agreed. Fortunately this doesn’t happen very often,” she said.
